Hey there! So glad you popped in!

I'm Haly, the maker behind all the candles, art, and illustrations you see here. My husband, Neo, and I started Haly Design Creative Studio together back in 2016, right here in Wellington. We're a little family business, and we're really passionate about art, design, and sculpture – that's where a lot of our inspiration comes from.

All our lovely candles are made by hand by me, in small batches, in my home studio in Karori. (We actually started out in a tiny apartment in Te Aro – those were the days!). Each one is crafted with a lot of love and can take up to 12 hours to make! We're also super proud to use sustainable and vegan soy wax, cotton wicks, and non-toxic fragrance oils, all sourced right here in beautiful New Zealand.

Besides candles, I also love doing design and illustration work, and I create custom paintings and drawings too. Watercolour, pen and ink, and chalkboard lettering are some of my favourite things to play with.

CANDLE CARE

Our sculptural candles are designed to be both a stylish décor piece and a source of gentle light. Because of their unique shapes, burn times will vary. Smaller candles will burn for roughly 30 minutes to an hour, while larger ones can last up to four hours. Due to their unusual forms, they will likely burn unevenly – this is all part of their charm!

To ensure the best burning experience, please trim the wick before each use and always place your candle on a candle-proof dish to catch any wax drippings. Keep your candle away from direct sunlight and heat sources like heaters, as this can cause the wax to soften and lose its shape. It's also a good idea to use a coaster or dish underneath, as the natural oils in soy wax can sometimes leave a residue.

 

Important Burning Information:

Our free-standing candles are packed with soy wax, so make sure your drip tray is large enough to catch all the melted wax!

 

A Few Things to Note About Our Handmade Candles:

• Because our candles are handmade in small batches, they may vary slightly from the photos in terms of shade and dimensions.
• We use premium soy wax.
• Soy wax can sometimes develop a white, frosty coating. This is perfectly normal – it's called "frosting" and is actually a sign that you have a genuine soy candle! If it happens, simply buff the candle gently with a cloth.

 

Sustainability is Important to Us:

We hand-pour our candles in small batches using only natural and biodegradable materials. Our soy wax blend is made from soybeans and natural colour dyes. Soy wax is not only natural and non-toxic, but it's also a sustainable, vegan, and cruelty-free material.

All our packaging is completely plastic-free, and your candle will arrive in 100% recyclable cardboard and paper. Sometimes, we even reuse bubble wrap to protect your candles – we believe in giving materials a second life whenever possible! We mostly create our candles to order or in small batches, releasing them in restocks and drops. This helps us minimize waste by only making candles we know will be loved.
